Thoughts in Progress

Welcome to the eerie twilit life of those creatures known only as “grad students.” Please, have some punch and cookies. Put your feet up. Stay a while. About me: aside from the title (which is pretty self-explanatory), I work on computers, grade many papers, and teach freshman English classes. Sometimes, when the moon sits just so on the horizon and the air is tinged with the scent of cheddar bagels, you can hear me gripe about my days. But really, I do enjoy what I do. Hopefully, you can see that beneath the rest. Knitting: my current project is a lace shawl for my mother. periodically, there will be photos of its progress or lack thereof. Dissertation: working on two ideas as the moment, one of which is the continuation of [Franken]thesis. See below: [FRANKEN]THESIS UPDATE: DONE!! BRIDE OF [FRANKEN]THESIS: in the planning/plotting stages. Mrs. Frank will be a pleasurable experience, I think. SON OF [FRANKEN]THESIS: Little Frank Jr isn't yet conceived, but he's bound to come about sometime. Maybe he'll have siblings.

Modular Story Woes

Here I am writing a modular story. Or attempting to. It isn't going well. I've got ideas now, a plethora of them. But they aren't getting onto the paper. They're trapped upstairs, and I can't lure them out. That's a set of mixed metaphors, I know.

The theme is circus from hell. Not specifically, or anything, but in general feeling. There are a bunch of people (and a cat) who are connected through this woman. They're all crazy, in different ways. And they move through life in a hopeless fashion, unsure of themselves, and entirely unstable. I can only hope the humor gets through, since I'm shooting for morbidly lighthearted humor. The cast of characters and the humor is where I'm getting circus from, and the macabre despair they all feel is the hell part. See? Circus from hell.

More on this when it's written.

end.
